WHAT IS A LIBRARY LEVY?
The Valier & Conrad Public Library Boards have requested a vote whether to collect a tax from county property owners for the specific use of funding the public libraries.

WHY DO WE NEED IT?
This dedicated library funding currently accounts for more than 90% of the operating revenue for the Valier & Conrad Public Libraries.

IS THIS A NEW TAX?
No. This levy request is a continuation of the 2022 approved request which expired in 2025.

The public libraries in Pondera County have received funding from a dedicated library levy since 2002; voters approved this funding again in 2006, 2012, and 2022.

FOR HOW MUCH ARE THE LIBRARIES ASKING?
The amount requested for tax year 2026 equates to a total of $428,817.

WHAT WOULD THIS COST ME?
The estimated tax amount is based on the value of the property. A home with:
-
a market value of $100,000 = $15.87/year
-
a market value of $300,000 = $47.61/year
-
a market value of $600,000 = $108.99/year
The average homeowner in Pondera County would pay about $35 per year or about the cost of one hardcover book.

HOW LONG WOULD THIS LEVY LAST?
The levy request is for 8 years beginning with tax year 2026.

HOW IS THE FUNDING DIVIDED BETWEEN THE LIBRARIES?
The allocation of money to each library is based upon the market & taxable values of
its legal service area.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE LEVY PASSES?
If the levy passes, the Valier & Conrad Public Libraries continue providing excellent programs and services across Pondera County.

WHAT HAPPENS IF THE LEVY FAILS?
If the levy fails, Pondera County residents lose most access to essential public library services and enriching programs that are currently offered.
